John Alborough - Managing Director
John has over 25 years’ experience within the oil, gas and petrochemical industry, covering both upstream and downstream inspection, analytical and process chemistry operations. During this period he gained over 17 years’ experience in the management and operation of offshore laboratories and chemical application systems on a great number of differing platforms. He has provided laboratory management and consultancy services on well over 100 platforms and overseas locations including Norway, Canada, Vietnam, Abu-Dhabi, Tunisia and Angola. He has managed a number of specialised laboratories and been responsible for project-managing the laboratory design, construction and commissioning of laboratories, chemical injection and integrity monitoring facilities onboard almost thirty oil and gas laboratory developments worldwide.
John has extensive experience of training and auditing chemists and operators globally and has managed the technical authorship of nearly fifty laboratory procedures manuals.
Jim Milne
Jim entered the oil industry in 1973, well testing in the North Sea. He joined BP for the start-up of the Forties Field as an Offshore Chemist. He soon moved onshore and ran BP’s Petroleum Engineering/Production Chemistry Laboratory for the next 15 years, gaining an enormous breadth of experience in all aspects of oilfield and laboratory operations from the perspective of a major oil company. He then moved to SGS as Manager, Laboratory and Offshore Manpower, where he spent the next 9 years developing and expanding the business and broadening his knowledge of the oil industry from a service company viewpoint.
Since then, Jim has started and continues to run his own business specialising in the provision of offshore laboratory equipment rental and consequently has an extensive knowledge of the instrumentation and methodology currently utilised in the modern oilfield environment.
Jim joined the NuLab team last year, and will add his experience to the already significant knowledge base within the company. His main role being to assist in all of NuLab’s activities, with particular emphasis on the expansion of the business into new markets, as well as into new geographical locations.
Iain Knox - Consultant Chemist
Iain has over 8 years’ experience as a senior offshore chemist. He has extensive knowledge and experience of offshore laboratory and sampling operations, process systems and chemical injection and auditing. He has trained and competency assessed many operators and chemists both offshore and onshore. Iain has carried out laboratory commissioning and start-up operations both in the UK and in South East Asia and has also been responsible for the re-design and refurbishment of offshore laboratories.
Susan Hay - Consultant Chemist
Susan started her career in 1998 with Baker Petrolite, gaining valuable knowledge of process chemical analysis techniques, development and selection of specialist chemicals for various process applications, before moving to a laboratory in Livingstone specialising in the provision of scale inhibitor testing and scale solutions. She gained extensive experience with a global inspection and testing company as an offshore chemist on a number of offshore installations, with particular responsibility for: laboratory safety and quality management; preparation of representative samples; accuracy of analysis and reporting; process chemical management and optimisation.
Susan then spent 3 years with a chemical service company providing onshore production chemistry support to major clients in the North Sea, specialising in scale prediction, squeeze design and management, and offshore laboratory operational troubleshooting and support.
Since joining NuLab, Susan has pioneered the development of systems of work for Oil-In-Water management for a number of clients and been responsible for the technical authorship of several cross-asset laboratory procedures manuals. She has run NuLab modular training courses and carried out competency assessment for chemists and process operators offshore and within the NuLab Laboratory Training Centre. She is currently working with the NuLab team in the development of two new training courses.
Lee Ann Waddell - Consultant Chemist
Lee Ann Waddell, Consultant Chemist, joined NuLab in September 2009. She started out approximately 13 years ago with a major chemical service company specialising in R&D and scale management before joining an international testing services company. Here she gained extensive experience as a senior offshore chemist on a number of North Sea installations gaining experience in process systems, chemical trials, and training before moving onto a role as offshore services supervisor. Immediately prior to joining NuLab she spent three years as an allocation engineer.
Cathy Alborough - Director and Business Manager
Cathy was previously a PA/Secretary for a major oil company and has many years’ experience in the oil and gas industry. She is responsible for the overall management of the business, and document control of laboratory procedures manuals and training courses.
